BRIDEHAMPTON, N.Y. (WPIX) -- The 'Queen of Pop' was thrown to the ground Saturday on Long Island after the horse she was riding became startled by nearby paparazzi.

The incident occurred while Madonna, 50, was riding at the Bridehampton estate of celebrity photographer Steven Klein. She was rushed to Southampton Hospital with minor injuries and was later released a few hours after the accident.

Publicist Liz Rosenberg said the 'Material Girl' fell from the horse when the animal became frightened by photographers who apparently jumped out of bushes unexpectedly.

Sources tell the NY Daily News, that Madonna is currently recovering at friend Gwyneth Paltrow's Amagansett estate.

This is the second time in less than four years that Madonna has been injured riding a horse. In 2005, she was thrown from a horse in England and sustained injuries, including: three cracked ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken hand.

That incident reportedly took place on Madonna's estate while she was riding a polo horse that she was not acquainted with. When recalling the severity of the accident, she said it was "the most painful experience of my life."
