KEW GARDENS HILLS, N.Y. (WPIX)—It seems Steven Slater has a thicker skin for pushy reporters than obnoxious passengers.
The infamous Jet Blue flight attendant kept his cool and didn't utter a word as he made his way in and out of Queens County Court Tuesday morning.
"We had some discussions with the District Attorney. We hope to continue those discussions to favorably resolve this matter for Mr. Slater," said Daniel Horwitz, Slater's Attorney.
District Attorney Richard Brown says Slater will be evaluated and quite possibly be admitted into an alternative mental health program that could include anger management and counseling.
"Deals in issues involving mental health, stress, alcohol abuse, substance abuse and other issues of that nature," said Brown.
Brown also admitted he is annoyed with the publicity, and folk hero status Slater has gotten.
"I've said from the beginning that I have been very much troubled by the fact that this event has been trivialize to the extent that it has been," said Brown. "Deploying an emergency shoot from a plane filled with passengers is no laughing matter."
Slater could wind up laughing all the way to the bank, if he beats this rap.
After resolving his legal matters, getting on with his life could mean, a book deal, the talk show circuit and maybe even Superbowl beer commercial.
