WEST VILLAGE, NY (PIX11)—New York University professor of film studies José Angel Santana is suing the university because he says he lost his job for giving Oscar nominated actor James Franco a D.
Franco, who has been caught sleeping during class at both NYU and Columbia University, was in pursuit of his third masters degree. Santana said he gave Franco a D in the class "Directing the Actor II" because Franco only attended two of the 14 classes.
NYU spokesman John Beckman told E! News in a statement:
"We have not seen the lawsuit yet, but the claims we are seeing in the media are ridiculous. Beyond that, it is regrettable and disappointing to see a faculty member--former or otherwise--discuss any student's grade for the purpose of personal publicity."
Franco has not commented on the lawsuit. He rejoined the Tisch School this fall as a member of the faculty, teaching a course on adapting poetry into films.
