NEW YORK (WPIX)—A man suspected of mowing down a pedestrian in the Bronx Monday night is in police custody due to the help of a Good Samaritan.
According to reports, a Nissan Maxima slammed into 40-year-old Braulio Lopez-Cruz as he was crossing Bruckner Boulevard in Pelham Bay around 9 p.m. The driver, 45-year-old Michael Fennell, reportedly left the scene, but not before truck driver Peter Dinome, who witnessed the entire incident, tracked him down.
Pelham Parkway West and finally ended near a street in close proximity to where the accident occurred. Dinome said he topped speeds of 100 mph as he pursued Fennell.
When the suspect's car stopped, Dinome said he ran over to the vehicle and dragged him out. Fennell - who was reportedly crying and very apologetic following the incident - was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident.
Lopez-Cruz was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where he remains in serious condition.
