FARMINGDALE, N.Y - FBI agents were on the grounds of a Farmingdale industrial complex Wednesday "conducting a search for physical evidence on the ground," a spokesman for the FBI's Manhattan (New York City)" id="PLGEO100100804010000">Manhattan office said.

Federal law enforcement sources said a forensic unit was looking for evidence connected to one or more mob-related killings. Suffolk police homicide detectives accompanied the agents. A van from the New York City medical examiner's office marked "Special Operations Forensic Anthropology" also was on scene.

At least two dozen agents, some with the evidence response team, others in plainclothes, were gathered outside a one-story brick building occupied by several businesses.

A man who identified himself as the owner of one of the businesses asked a reporter to leave and said, "We've got a business to run."

Agents blocked off a section adjacent to a building at Baiting Place Road and Del Drive.

A section was marked off with yellow police tape, extending from a tree next to the building to the sidewalk, about 20 yards, and running along the sidewalk.

Six yellow flags in a row were planted in the ground from the sidewalk to the building.

An ambulance was also on the scene.
