About 5 to 8 pounds of explosives were removed from the Hammonton residence, which was also the site of a raid in May, in which marijuana with a street value of nearly $200,000 was seized. During that search, weapons and drug-making chemicals were also recovered, police said.
Police rushed to the home around 3 p.m. after receiving a tip about potentially unstable explosives in the car. Neighbors from as far away as 2 blocks were evacuated as bomb squad members investigated the incident.
Atlantic County prosecutor's spokeswoman Maddy Vitale said state police bomb squad members removed the package and took it to a safe area where it was detonated shortly before 7 p.m.
So far, no word on charges or arrests in the case.
