A Suffolk County police officer delivered his own son in his car on Wednesday morning with phone directions from a 911 dispatcher, officials said.

Around 4:44 a.m., Peter Jurgensen of Riverhead, called 911 from a Shell gas station in Hampton Bays and reported that his wife, Kristen, was in labor, according to a release from the Southampton Town police.

Jurgensen was taking his wife to Southampton Hospital when it became apparent that "delivery was imminent," according to the release.

Dispatcher Tammy Wilson "provided clear and concise medical direction" to Jurgensen and he was able to deliver the baby in his car as emergency responders arrived at the scene, according to the police.

The family was taken to the hospital and were all "doing fine," police said.
