LAKE RONKONKOMA, N.Y.—A construction worker was shot to death while he was sitting in his car in Lake Ronkonkoma Monday morning, Suffolk County police said.
Raymond Hirt, 51, a construction worker from Mastic Beach, was parked on Beach Street, just south of nearby construction taking place on Portion Road, when a dark-colored SUV pulled up beside him and an occupant inside fired a shot.
Hirt was struck in the neck and rushed to Stony Brook University hospital shortly after 7 a.m. where he was pronounced dead three hours later.
Police say Hirt, who is employed as a flagman for Pratt Brother Inc., reportedly checked in for work at a nearby construction trailer and has just returned to the car when he was gunned down.
