BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WPIX)—Habitat for Humanity is honoring Martin Luther King Jr. with a weekend building "blitz," accompanied by musical performances and inspiration speeches.
The event kicks off in Brooklyn Saturday, where volunteers will begin building the first four of 16 affordable homes in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The two-day "blitz" build includes a Saturday program featuring a keynote address by the Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood, and musical performances by the Brooklyn Steppers and Blackfire Drumline.
The PS 54 Gospel Choir and Dancers will also perform. Volunteers will re-paint the school's gymnasium nearby.
In addition, Habitat-NYC will sponsor a fundraising drive for Habitat for Humanity International's future rebuilding efforts in Haiti.
