MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (WPIX)—A man from Massapequa who calls himself a "bishop" in the traditional Roman Catholic Church," but who has no religious affiliation, was charged with performing a sexual act on a minor.
According to Nassau County police, Dennis McCormack, 41, who reportedly advertises traditional services from an American Legion Hall in Plainview, was caught on tape July 14 performing a sex act on a person under the age of 19.
He appeared before a judge Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead where he was reportedly arraigned on $150,000 bond or $100,000 cash bail.
McCormack had a Web site that advertises services out of the American Legion Hall in Plainview, police said.
A spokesman for the Diocese of Rockville Centre said McCormack is not a priest and has no ties to the diocese.
