Motorola is moving its headquarters to the Merchandise Mart bringing along thousands of employees and plans for a major investment.
The headquarters of Motorola Mobility and it`s 3000-plus employees are moving from Libertyville to the downtown hub in the summer of 2013.
There are already about 500 employees there now.
The smartphone, tablet and data management company also plans to invest $300 million dollars on their new home according to the mayor.
Mayor Emanuel is calling Chicago the 'it' city for tech business.
“This is going to make us the tech mecca, the digital mecca of the Midwest,” he said.
The city didn`t give Motorola any money for the move, but the company does get to keep $110 million dollars in state tax breaks they got last year by staying in Illinois.
