WGN-TV To Host Televised Mayoral Debate Jan. 27 at WGN-TV Studios with Chicago Tribune and City Club of Chicago

WGN-TV, with the Chicago Tribune and City Club of Chicago, will be hosting a live broadcast of a major mayoral debate from its north side studio, Thursday, January 27, 2011, at 7 p.m. Confirmed participants are candidates (in alphabetical order) Gery Chico, Miguel del Valle, Rahm Emanuel and Carol Moseley Braun. Micah Materre, WGN-TV News at Nine co-anchor, and Bruce Dold, Chicago Tribune Editorial Page Editor, will moderate.

The four invited candidates received the highest support in a Chicago Tribune/WGN-TV poll of Chicago voters conducted Dec. 10-13, 2010. Also invited to participate, were Rep. Danny Davis and the Rev. James Meeks, both of whom have since left the race.

The debate will be broadcast live on WGN-TV (local signal) at 7 p.m. and will run for 58 minutes, commercial free. Tickets for a small studio audience will be distributed to WGN-TV viewers/Chicago Tribune readers. To apply for tickets, WGN viewers are invited to submit a job description for the next mayor. Writers of the 15 most intriguing submissions will each receive a pair of tickets.

The debate will take place in Studio 2 of WGN-TV, 2501 N. Bradley Place. A reception for the studio audience and the candidates will take place after the broadcast.
