Holiday travelers clog Chicago area airports, roads

Chicago area residents are packing local airports and roadways Friday to get to their holiday destinations.

While O’Hare Airport’s busiest day was Thursday, Friday was the busiest travel day of the holiday season for Midway Airport. Most departures and arrivals were on time, however, due in part to the good weather.

Several passengers told WGN-TV that they prefer flying out of Midway over O’Hare whenever possible.

“I can get through whole airport,” traveler Megan Norris said.. “O’Hare it's a lot more congested."
"I think it's comfortable here,” said traveler Joe Seltzer. “It's not too busy, but it's normal."

Meanwhile, on Chicago’s roads, many of the main arteries started to back up early Friday afternoon. Cicero Avenue on the Southwest Side was crawling near Interstate 55.

But many of the highways look pretty good. Motorists that stopped off at the Hinsdale Oasis said there weren’t many trouble spots.

“Right now it's smooth, no problems,” said motorist Ryan Diem.
