Committee meets to consider Rep. Smith's fate
An Illinois legislative committee meets this morning to consider forcing State Representative Derrick Smith out of office.

Smith is charged with taking a $7,000 bribe to help a daycare center get a government grant.

He won his primary election in the spring; since then he has refused demands by fellow Democrats to give up his spot on the ticket for the fall election.

The House Special Inquiry Committee will recommend whether to reprimand, censure or expel Smith.
