CPS principals meet with Brizard

Chicago Public School principals met this afternoon at Roberto Clemente High School to discuss a sticking point central to them in the ongoing strike negotiations- their autonomy to hire the teachers they choose.

The CTU is fighting principal autonomy as the teachers' strike concludes its third day. CPS chief Jean-Claude Brizard and Board of Education vice president Jesse Ruiz joined the principals for their take on the issue.

Principals are not part of the union and support the city's side in this- allowing them to decide who teaches in their schools. CTU officials want teachers who have been laid off due to closings and consolidations to have first dibs at jobs.
