Will Smith suspended for two games

Saints defensive end Will Smith will sit out the first two games of the 2011 season after testing positive for an NFL-banned substance, the league released Friday.

"Smith's suspension begins on Saturday, September 3," Saints VP of Communications released in a statement Friday afternoon.

Smith will not play versus the Green Bay Packers on September 8 or the Chicago Bears on September 18.

Smith was one of several players who tested positive for the banned diuretic "StarCaps" in 2008. Initially, the players were all going to be suspended for four games, but the case went to court in Minnesota, which prevented the NFL from enforcing the suspension. A decision by the Minnesota Supreme Court in recent months cleared the way for the suspensions.
