Tuscaloosa Trend may extend offshore from Baton Rouge
McMoRan Exploration Co. says the productive section of the Tuscaloosa Trend north of Baton Rouge could extend deep offshore on the Continental Shelf.

It says that could support drilling even deeper at its Davy Jones prospect, already drilled to 28,112 feet with plans of going down to 29,000 feet.

McMoRan said future prospective wells include an appraisal well southwest of the current one, to test similar sections around 1,000 feet shallower than the initial well.

It says that some of the sands through which it has drilled may contain oil and natural gas, but the condition of the well has made it impossible so far to tell.
