NEW ORLEANS—20 years make the Zephyrs a New Orleans tradition.
The club opens its 20th season in the Crescent City Thursday night against Nashville. Game time 7:05.
The Zephyrs have a host of familiar faces. They include lefthanded pitcher Beau Jones of Destrehan high school. Jones signed as a free agent in November of last year. Jones was a three time Class 5A all state selection. "I was sitting down with my wife yesterday and said, I haven't had a summer home in eight years," said Jones. "Its going to be fun."
The Zephyrs also return Triple A all star outfielder Bryan Petersen and fellow outfielder Chris Aguila. Aguila has 53 homers as a Zephyr, three shy of the club record held by J.R. Phillips.
In 2011, the Zephyrs won 69, lost 74. They were never able to gain traction in the pennant race after a 10-18 mark in the month of June. The Zephyrs were 40-31 at home, 29-43 on the road.
New Orleans was 11th in the Pacific Coast League in attendance averaging 5,315 fans per game.
