Congressman Rodney Alexander is urging residents to send holiday mail to ensure that soldiers and veterans in the United States and around the world will receive heartfelt wishes during the holidays.

From now until Dec. 7, Alexander says residents are invited to send cards with personal messages of gratitude and holiday cheer. The American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes Inc. will then deliver the cards to military bases, hospitals, veterans' hospitals and other locations.

Last year, the Holiday Mail for Heroes program received about 1.4 million cards.

Alexander says the nation's military men and women "serve selflessly to ensure our freedom," and participation in this effort is just one way to show gratitude for their service.
