Saints, hurting at linebacker, acquire veteran Ruud

The Saints, razor thin at linebacker, have found help in Seattle.

Monday ngiht, the Saints acquire veteran linebacker Barrett Ruud from the Seahawks for an undisclosed draft pick.

The Saints are quite familiar with Ruud. He entered the league with Tampa Bay in 2005, and played there thru the 2010 season.

Earliler Monday head coach Joe Vitt announced that starting middle linebacker Curtis Lofton and outside linebacker David Hawthorne were both injured.

Vitt said Hawthorne had a meniscus tear in his knee, and Lofton had a high ankle sprain. Vitt was asked about the availability of both for the September 9th season opener in the Superdome against the Washington Redskins.

Said Vitt, " "We certainly think Curtis is going to be available for the first game. Diagnosis on David is encouraging. He did it early in the game and played on it. He has a chance to be back for the next game."

Starting outside linebacker Chris Chamberlain suffered a torn ACL in Friday night's preseason game against Jacksonville. He is out for the season.

The Saints also signed veteran wide receiver Greg Camirillo. Camirillo's first year in the league was 2005, Drew Brees' last with San Diego.

Camirillo said he worked out with Saints quarterbacks this offseason in California.
