Orleans Parish Deputy Arrested for BringingTobacco to Jail

According to Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputy Dwayne Barnes was arrested on Friday after an internal investigation conducted by the OPSO.                

Barnes was charged with 11 counts of introducing contraband into a penal institution and 11 counts of malfeasance in office. Officials say the contraband recovered was tobacco products and Mojo.

After his arrest, Barnes was suspended from duty without pay, pending the conclusion of the OPSO investigation. 

Barnes has been employed by the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office for about a year and a half.
