The McMain Mustangs rank #11 in the state's 3-A rankings. The team is 5-and-2 and this week's New Orleans VooDoo Athlete of the Week, Omari Jones, is a big reason why.
McMain junior quarterback Omari Jones was stellar against Pearl River.
Jones threw for 490 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the game to give the Mustangs a 54-48 win. It was Jones' 6th touchdown pass of the game.
"I realized that I had 5," Jones remembers. "I had no idea that I was going to throw the last one, but I wishing for it."
Jones can make every throw, but according to head coach Kevin Roussel, Jones has bigger attributes. Those are his work ethic and his penchant for winning.
"He's a kid that took as to the quarterfinals last year as a first year starter," Roussel told WGNO Sports. "He's gets better and better each week. Works hard. First one here, every day. He's hasn't missed a day. He's a great kid."
