Consultant Hired To Study SUNO/UNO Merger
The high-profile study on whether the University of New Orleans should be merged with Southern University at New Orleans will be led by a Boulder, Colo., consultant.

The Board of Regents plans to tap Dennis Jones, president of the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems, to analyze the potential merger and whether the new entity should become part of the University of Louisiana System.

Regents spokeswoman Meg Casper tells The Time-Picayune that the contract for the work is not yet complete.

Casper says the board plans to have a hearing on the matter in February.

Gov. Bobby Jindal has said the study, which is due March 1, will be a key factor in deciding whether to push for a merger, which would need approval from the Legislature.
