Orleans Parish Deputy Surrenders
A New Orleans Parish Deputy surrendered to authorities after a warrant went out for his arrest Thursday.

William Thompson is accused of leaving his post during the time inmate William Goetzee committed suicide.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman said Thompson falsified records he was was supposed to maintain while on suicide watch.

Thompson's Attorney Robert Jenkins said his client maintains his innocence. Jenkins said it's not much he can say because he hasn't seen anything implicating his client to a crime.

Goetzee allegedly assaulted a federal officer last month in a an attempt to commit suicide. Goetzee was arrested and landed at OPP where he killed himself. Authorities said Goetzee suffocated himself by eating toilet paper.

Thompson is expected to bond out late Friday.
