New Orleans—The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Dejuan Thomas, born on 11/26/1972, on Sept. 9, 2011. An internal investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office and consultation with the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office concluded that Thomas was suspected to be guilty of the following.
Thomas was charged with the following violations: Aggravated Rape, Second Degree Kidnapping and Sexual Malfeasance in Office.
Immediately after his arrest, Thomas was terminated by the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office. He was employed as an OPSO deputy since September 2009.
"The Sheriff's Office maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding deputies engaging in illegal activities," said Sheriff Marlin Gusman. "I understand the duty that our deputies are sworn to uphold, and this office will continue to enforce any illegal acts to the full capacity of the law."
Thomas was arraigned in Orleans Parish Magistrate Court Sept. 10 and is currently being held in protective custody with the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office with a $105,000 bond.
Due to privacy concerns and the ongoing investigation into this matter, the Sheriff's Office will not release further information about the inmate involved in this situation or additional details about this case at this time. The Sheriff's Office will continue to work with the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office to pursue these charges.
