The third annual Family Gras celebration kicked off in Jefferson Parish Friday night.
Organizers had hoped for about 5,000 people to turn out to hear the headlining act, legendary singer Tony Orlando. But the wet and soggy weather kept a lot of people at home.
One person who did come out to hear Orlando, Kenner resident Jim Hanzo explains why he loves Family Gras. "It's a family event and its out here in Jefferson Parish which is where we're from and we're out here just to support it and be here for the good people and the artists" Hanzo says.
Despite the low turnout at Family Gras festivities, the Excalibur and Atlas parade routes were crowded with people.
Family Gras runs all weekend long. Musical acts performing Saturday include Le Ann Womack and Gavin DeGraw. Sunday's lineup includes Cowboy Mouth and Jesse McCartney.
