(WGN-AM) - A Will County prosecutor says Drew Peterson told a fellow police officer in 2003 he would be financially devastated by his pending divorce and that his life would be easier if his wife was dead.

Months later that wife, Kathleen Savio, was found drowned in her bath tub.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow says Peterson offered to pay someone 25-thousand dollars to kill Savio.

Peterson attorney Joel Brodsky says talk about his client hiring someone to kill Savio was unsubstantiated.

The judge refused to reduce the bond for the suburban ex-cop, charged with killing Savio, his third wife, in 2004. Peterson is also a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.
