  • After Tuesday's rain, warm week but cool weekend

Three waves of showers swept across the Chicago area Tuesday, bringing generous rainfall and gusty winds. The heaviest band moved through during the early afternoon, and though devoid of thunder and lightning, still packed enough punch to bring wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph. The area's peak wind gust of 59 mph was recorded at the Harrison-Dever Crib, just offshore of Grant Park. Some trees, power lines and a power pole were damaged in the Summit area. Generally dry and warm weather will follow the next few days, with the mercury reaching the lower and middle 80s away from the lake, though a few showers could pop up Wednesday afternoon. Sharply cooler weather will arrive for the weekend, with readings struggling to reach the lower 60s Saturday as gusty northeast winds, cloudy skies and showers enhance the arriving chill.
