It's time for children in the Roanoke Valley to lace up their sneakers and hit the road. They can sign up now for the YMCA Kids Marathon, happening in conjunction with the Blue Ridge Marathon on Saturday, April 20.
This will be the fourth year of the kids marathon.
After signing up online, kids have to complete 25.2 miles with friends and family from now through April 19. It doesn't have to just be running. They can walk, hop, swim or any other physical activity, as long as they keep a log of what they do.
On April 20, the kids will all come together to finish the final mile. The young runners will start at the Kirk Family YMCA and run through the streets of downtown Roanoke. The finish line is behind the Taubman Museum of Art. That's the same finish line as the athletes participating in the Blue Ridge Marathon.
