The Cave Spring Knights hadn't played in two weeks since losing to Hidden Valley in the regular season finale.

Tim Fulton's team butted heads with Martinsville on the rug at Bogle Stadium in Region IV, Division Three semifinal action.

The Bulldogs were trying to avenge their 50-29 loss to the Knights in week 2 of the regular season in this first playoff meeting between the two teams.

In the first quarter, Reece Kingery was looking for Luke Morgan, but Martinsville's Devonte Preston is there for the pick -- off the tipped ball -- and returned it to the 41. But they can't do anything with the turnover.

Second quarter, after a long run from Sam Wright, he finished the drive from 4 yards out.

Cave Spring took a 7-0 lead.

Then more from Wright. He got the hand-off from Tony Simmons and went 20 yards -- hurdling a defender on the way to the endzone. The 2-point conversion was no good to make it 13-0 Knights.

Martinsville threatened on the Knights 17, but Ishmel Hairston coughed up the football and Cave Spring's Clay Woody recovered it on the 23 with 57 seconds to play before the half.

The Knights marched down the field and got one more score in before the break -- Kingery to Jon Evans.

Cave Spring topped Martinsville 41-9. The Knights will face Richlands in the next round.
