Browne's Irish Market Place: Shepherd's Pie

Meat Filling:
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup peas, frozen
  • 1-2 medium carrots, shredded
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • Brown hamburger in skillet with onion and carrots
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • drain and add peas

make bisto gravy per directions or your favorite beef gravy. add
  • 2T HP Sauce (or substitute steak sauce)
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • mix in with ground beef
  • 1 pound Yukon Gold (or butter potatoes)
  • 1/4-1/2 stick KerryGold butter
  • 1/4 cup warm milk
  • Scrub potatoes
  • Boil with or without skins
  • drain and cook off excess water
  • uses potato masher, adding milk, butter, salt and pepper
  • In pie plan or glass baking dish (engrossed)
  • spread out meat mixture
  • spread potatoes over top
  • bake in oven at 350 for 20 minutes
  • last 5 ins, top w/shredded cheddar cheese and chives
