Trinity Medical Center will no longer build a hospital in Irondale.

Instead, it plans to open up a hospital off Highway 280 and finish up the HealthSouth Digital Hospital.

The news comes after a two and a half year battle to have a 315 million dollar hospital built in Irondale.

The new plan will have Trinity Medical Center relocate from 800 Montclair Boulevard to the new location on Highway 280. Trinity will have to finish construction on the new hospital and plans not to exceed 424 acute care beds.

200 million dollars was put into building the digital hospital, but it was left unfinished after the HealthSouth accounting fraud scandal in 2003.
