Nineteen people have been indicted on federal charges for a crack cocaine ring operating in and around Anniston.

All the suspects were rounded up Friday in "Operation Rosewood" which had been going on for two years.

Anniston's police chief says the operation will not only put a dent in the drug trade but will also affect the city's rise in violent crime.

"We know definitely that some of the suspects that have been detained, and are going to be prosecuted federally and state, have been involved in some violent activity in the past.  It's just their history, and we can document where they have been involved in the past," said Police Chief John Dryden.

A number of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies were involved, including the police departments of Anniston, Oxford, Birmingham and Alabaster.
