1. Property of the Week: Mill Commons

Along West Street in Simsbury lies a historic 1680 mill. It has undergone many transformations over the years, from processing grain and lumber for the townspeople of Simsbury to spinning hemp used in safety fuses made by the renowned Ensign-Bickford Company. In its newest incarnation, the mill will serve as the heart of a mixed-use development surrounding the luxury apartments at Mill Commons.

  7. Crime & Punishment: An Epic White Trash Saga

Incoming state Rep. Christina Ayala says she won't buckle under pressure to resign following her arrest in a domestic dispute (which follows charges in an August hit-and-run) but the incident is nonetheless jeopardizing her seat. Ayala, 29, requested a protective order against her boyfriend. In the filing, she listed her address as 49 Hillside Ave. in Bridgeport, which is just outside the 128th House District — the one she was elected to represent. Under statelaw, House members must reside in the district they serve. On candidate paperwork, Ayala claimed she lived at 604 Noble Ave., but neighbors told a Connecticut Post reporter they had not seen her recently. The State House leader has told her she must move by Jan. 9, the start of the new session.

  11. Property of the Week: Shepherd's Way

The beloved Dewey-Granby Oak is a sprawling and sturdy tree, a beautiful specimen to behold. Small wonder local builder John Fitzgerald selected this tree, which stands across the street from his Shepherd’s Way community, as a logo for his properties.

  13. Will Classical Music Repel Vagrants?

It's sad that classical music is seen as a repellent, but many cities use it to shoo vagrants away. Danbury is considering piping it into Library Place, a favorite spot of loiterers. Does highbrow music really repel the down-and-out? Portland, Ore.,...

  21. Property of the Week: Strawberry Fields

Sometimes empty-nesters and mature homeowners wish to downsize and get away from the time-consuming chores that come with home ownership. These are the people attracted to Strawberry Fields, an active, over-55 community in South Windsor. Residents are not burdened with the more mundane and labor-intensive aspects of owning a home. Since the community association takes care of property upkeep, residents are free to use their spare time for recreation and friends
