1. Funeral Home Director In Newtown Looks Back On A Week of Crisis and Support

After Dan Honan finally finished the unspeakable task of laying to rest 11 first-graders in five days, he sat and tried to put it in perspective at the same hardwood table where those children's families had made plans no one should ever make.

  13. Crime & Punishment: Middletown Man Arrested For Pulling Out His Girlfriend's Weave

Four Ansonia residents were given a pass on paying town taxes on their automobiles, although records obtained by the Valley Independent Sentinel show they owed a collective $16,666 in delinquent taxes (some dating back to the '90s). Two of the residents are employed by the town, one serves on a town board and the last has the same last name as Tax Collector Bridget Bostic. The town was not quick to hand these files over to the news website; a town attorney purportedly told reporter Jodie Mozdzer that it would cost $1,000 in fees and take a long time to compile the information. But Mozdzer had better luck requesting them through the Freedom of Information Act. Town Hall cancelled a meeting between Mozdzer and Bostic due to "personal reasons" but Mayor James Della Volpe swore he would act on this "new" information.

  15. Crime & Punishment: Two men arrested after police heard them singing a song about their crime

Chris Powell, the political columnist/managing editor of Manchester's Journal-Inquirer, has called New Haven's policies toward undocumented immigrants "treason" and blamed issues in inner-city schools on the low "caliber of the students themselves," as the urban poor are "unproductive and troublesome and drag down everything around them." Yet Powell is in trouble for the one semi-intelligent point he's ever made. He wrote that once-again Senate candidate Linda McMahon made her fortune on "the business of violence, pornography, and general raunch," which caused said business, the WWE, to threaten the Journal-Inquirer with a libel suit. The Hartford Courant's Colin McEnroe did the pro-wrestling empire the favor of listing possible co-defendants who have also likened the WWE to porn, including McMahon's primary opponent Chris Shays, The New York Times' Gail Collins, McEnroe himself, The Daily Kos and Politico (which noted the WWE once partnered with Girls Gone Wild). Powell is finally in distinguished company.

  17. 'Maskulinity' dancers explore race, violence, sexuality and interpersonal relationships

You could call it dance, or you could say it's a "contemporary movement performance project with choreography." Either way, Maskulinity, directed by Ras Mikey C, who's the director of education for an arts and entertainment company called F.I.V.E. (an acronym for "Fore I'm A Versatile Entertainer"), brings together dancers from New Haven, South Windsor and Ansonia, and others from Brattleboro, Vt., for an exploration of race, violence, sexuality and interpersonal relationships — through dance. It's produced by Salix Productions, whose mission is to "create collaborative performances that illustrate women's experiences while inspiring change."
