    The Scirpo family has been auctioning farm animals for 50 years. Founded in 1959 by the late Sebastian Scirpo, the Middlesex Livestock Auction in Middlefield has been run by his widow, Kathleen, 71, and his daughters Lisa, 45, and Lana, 49, for the past seven years. Beginning at noon every Monday, people come to sell and buy cattle, chicken, ducks, goats, and the occasional emu or alpaca, as well as browse the accompanying flea market. Once one of three livestock auctions in the state, it is now the only one.
