Southington

Although Southington was formally established as a town in 1779, its roots go back to a much earlier time. Samuel Woodruff, Southington's first white settler, moved from Farmington to the area then known as Panthorne that was settled in 1698. The settlement grew, prospered, and came to be known as South Farmington and then later, the shortened version, Southington.  Show more »

  9. Cut Your Own Christmas Tree

Like always, Christmas seemed to bombard us this year. As soon as Halloween passed, yup, there they were in the foyer of Home Depot. Sparkly, shining, blinking decorations. Just as the turkey was digested, the carols came on the radio and the stockings emerged from their warm weather hibernation. I don't know about you, but, despite all this, I wasn't really feelin' it. I just wasn't in the holiday mood. Until I visited Karabin Farms, that is.

  11. Mansfield Drive In

If the arid ten acre open field in Mansfield looks a bit like the land that time forgot, a reminder of why it appears so antiquated makes sense when the sun goes down. History and pop culture meet at the Mansfield Drive-In where cars still roll in and celluloid still rolls on. The Mansfield Drive-in is one of two full time drive-in movie theatres left in Connecticut. The drive-in opened in 1954, owner Michael Jungden started as a ticket manager in 1974. "We're still here every day," Jungden said, " there are so few drive-ins that people travel a long distance, I have people that come once a week and travel 45 minutes to an hour."
