1. This Week's Picks: 4 Author Events in Fairfield County

Writers may be able to work from home in their underwear, which is a pretty sweet deal, but they've also got to hit the road and promote their books and publications from time to time. This week there are a handful of such events in local libraries and bookstores. Jeffrey Lyons is the son of New York Post columnist Leonard Lyons, and he recounts his dad's life rubbing elbows with 20th century icons like Salvador Dali, Frank Sinatra and Ernest Hemingway in his book Stories My Father Told Me. He'll be appearing at the Greenwich Library. Mary Rose Scinto tells the story of the song "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" in her book of the same name, a tune recorded in Bridgeport and now ubiquitous at every sporting event in the country. She's stopping by the Bridgeport Library. Newbury Honor winner Joan Bauer speaks about her new children's novel Almost Home at the Fairfield U Bookstore and former Fine Gardening magazine managing editor Steve Silk talks gardening photography at the Westport Library.

Paul Newman was Harvey Weinstein's Westport, Conn., neighbor. The kind of neighbor who stops by just to drop off a loaf of bread. As Weinstein remembers it, "So Paul called me one day and said, 'Come on up to the camp.' I said, 'How far is it?' Paul said,...

  7. Sample local beltane cheese at The Boathouse at Saugatuck in Westport

If you fancy yourself a cheese connoisseur but feel true artisanal cheeses can only be made in the rolling pastures of the French countryside or in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, think again. Instead of that transatlantic trip why not indulge in some delicious French inspired artisanal cheese being made and showcased right here in Connecticut? This week The Boathouse of Westport is inviting guests to indulge in award-winning artisanal cheese made from farmstead goat milk by farmer Paul Trubey of Beltane Farm in Lebanon, Connecticut. Featuring Danse de la Lune, Dutch Farmstead, and Grace, these three rich and flavorful cheeses are the perfect reflection of the Trubey's love for sustainable farming and the "Farm to Table" cuisine the Boathouse is known for.
