Airlines having fewer delays, lost bags

Airline passengers may have some reasons to gripe, but their bags are enjoying better treatment than ever.

The mishandled baggage rate for U.S. carriers fell to an all-time low of 2.02 reports per 1,000 passengers in November, according to the Department of Transportation, which has been keeping tabs on lost and abused luggage for 30 years.

The federal agency's monthly air travel report, released Tuesday, also showed cancellations were down, with airlines grounding 0.29 percent of their scheduled domestic flights in November — the lowest rate in more than 20 years.
