ARLINGTON, Texas — Five Anteaters scored in double figures and UCI shot 66.7% percent from the field in the second half en route to a BracketBusters win at UT Arlington Saturday.
Senior Adam Folker and sophomore Will Davis II scored 16 points each, seniors Michael Wilder and Daman Starring recorded 14 and 13 points, respectively, and junior Chris McNealy added 12 as UCI won its fourth straight game and sixth in the last eight.
Folker pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while Davis added six boards and five blocked shots as the Anteaters improved to 16-13 overall. Freshman Alex Young also had six rebounds and Wilder registered eight assists for UCI, which shot 52 percent from the field for the game.
Jamel Outler led UTA (15-10) with 21 points and Brandon Edwards added 16 as the Mavericks saw their five-game winning streak snapped in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
UCI, which never trailed in the game, led 31-26 at halftime on the strength of nine points from Wilder, who hit all three of his three-point attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
The Anteaters opened the second half on a 15-6 run to take a 46-32 lead on a basket by Davis with 12:40 remaining.
UTA used a late run to close within 75-70 on a three by Outler with 17 seconds left before Starring hit a pair of free throws with 6.2 seconds remaining to close out the win.
"I'm happy with my guys for getting this quality win on the road against a good team," UCI head coach Russell Turner said. "We performed well as a team on both ends, offensively and defensively.
"This was an important win for us to prepare for our three remaining conference games and the postseason, however far we can take it," Turner added.

EL CAJON — Taylor Kelly scored 20 points to lead the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Chris Gorman added 18 points and Ennis Whatley Jr. scored 15 points, while Selle Hann and Noel Larkins had 11 points each for Vanguard (17-12, 6-8 in conference).
The Lions outscored San Diego Christian, 14-6, in overtime.
SDC is 7-16, 4-10.
