Six-time champion and 79-year-old Moss Beecroft of Newport News was among those who qualified for match play at the VSGA Senior Amateur Championship at Princess Anne in Virginia Beach. Beecroft shot a 2-over 72 Tuesday and 149 over two days, and will take on two-time champion Vinny Giles of Richmond today in match play. Greg Thomas of Virginia Beach is one of four who shared medalist honors after stroke play. Thomas shot 2-over 142 for the two-day score. Centreville's John Long, Richmond's Stan Fischer and Alexandria's William Engel also were 2-over. Hampton's Jay Hehn and O.D. Gardner of Newport News secured spots in match play in extra holes. ... Ji Soo Park of Centreville shot a 5-under 66 and has a two-shot lead in the boys division after the first round of the AJGA Junior at Kingsmill's River Course in Williamsburg. Hampton Roads Academy's Trevor Times and Jamestown's Seth Nooe both shot 75, as did Suffolk's Tyler Sanderson. In the girls division, Harin Lee of Bayside, N.Y., and Kaitlyn Rohrback, of Crofton, Md., are tied for the lead at even-par 71. Jamestown's Victoria Newbury shot an 80.
