On The Fly: Carnessecca, Griffin To Be Honored; Star-Studded Boston Marathon Field

The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday that Lou Carnesecca and Mimi Griffin were to be honored as Naismith Outstanding Contributors to men’s and women’s basketball. Carnesecca was the long-time St. John’s coach who had a record of 526-200 over 24 years and is in the Naismith Hall of Fame. If there was a women’s basketball game on TV in the late ’80s or early ’90s (and there weren’t many), Griffin was usually working it. Griffin was a pioneering broadcaster for women’s basketball, working as the main analyst for ESPN from 1983-99 and for CBS as a color analyst for the Final Four from 1985-91.
