Bloomfield's Cassidy Palmer entered the Yale Track Classic on Saturday looking to break the state record in the 55-meter dash. But she'll have to wait a few days more for her chance to make history.
In a loaded 55-meter final at Coxe Cage, Palmer, a senior, finished just 0.02 of a second shy of the 11-year-old record, running 7.02 to take second place behind Halle Hazzard of St. Anthony's (N.Y).
Hazzard, who won the race last year, ran 6.94 for the third-fastest time in the country this season. Palmer's time was tied for seventh.
Palmer, a transfer from Stafford in 2015, is looking to beat the mark of 7.00 by former Bloomfield runner Stacey-Ann Smith.
