Yale's Martinelli Enjoys First Tennis Experience In New Haven

NEW HAVEN — Rain washed away much of the playing time on Friday for the first round of qualifying at the Connecticut Open. Matches were originally scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m. at the Connecticut Tennis Center but didn't get underway until 3 p.m., with more than half being pushed to Saturday.

The weather and changing start times didn't bother Samantha Martinelli. A native of Denver, Colo., Martinelli is set to join the Yale women's tennis team this upcoming season as a freshman and got her first chance at playing in a tournament in New Haven by receiving a wild card entry to the qualifying tournament.
