Serena Williams withdraws from Bank of the West Classic

STANFORD, Calif. Serena Williams withdrew from next week's Bank of the West Classic at Stanford on Friday, citing a right-elbow injury, tournament officials announced. The Bank of the West would have been Williams' first competition since she won Wimbledon three weeks ago. "I'm disappointed to have to withdraw from the Bank of the West Classic, but I need to get my elbow back to 100 percent," Williams said in a news release.
