American Sloane Stephens Helps Introduce New Haven Kids To Tennis

The gaggle of third-graders were behaving like, well, third-graders.

But the fidgeting and chatting and restlessness ended when Sloane Stephens talked. Stephens, standing amid the children on a practice tennis court at Yale, stepped out and stood in front of the group.

"Two lines," she yelled and grinned.

And there were suddenly two lines of quiet kids. Stephens, once the 11th-ranked player in the world, went about her Tuesday morning in New Haven, encouraging the girls and boys with high-fives, hugs and lots of screaming.
