Three-Time Champ Kvitova Returns To New Haven As No. 3 Seed

Despite a steady downpour delaying the first round of qualifying, the 20th Connecticut Open kicked off Friday with the ceremony selecting the main singles draw.

Tournament director Anne Worcester and WTA supervisor Donna Kelso hosted the ceremony with Petra Kvitova serving as the player representative. The Open also continued it's relationship with the New HYTEs youth tennis program, with 17 children and teenagers on hand to help with the draw.

Kvitova, who is coming back from an injury to her left hand that she sustained while defending herself during a home invasion in December, returns to New Haven, where she has won three titles. The 12th -ranked player in the world and...
