Tearful Mom Pleads for Skateboarding Helmet Law

Tears filled Holly Irwin’s eyes and her voice trembled as she told lawmakers Monday how she blames herself for not buying a helmet that could have prevented her son Conor’s skateboarding death in 2016.

“I will live in hell for the rest of my life knowing all I had to do was to buy that damned helmet,” Irwin said in urging passage of a bill to require all skateboarders under age 18 to wear helmets. “Please make sure this law happens. … Please make sure my Conor didn’t die in vain.”
