Pulkkinen gets new deal with Red Wings

Teemu Pulkkinen spent last season doing what others have done before him: stand out at the AHL level. Now he has the contract to make his case at the NHL level, agreeing Tuesday to a one-year deal worth $735,000 with the Detroit Red Wings. Pulkkinen, whose greatest asset is a booming, right-handed shot, appeared in 31 games last season with the Wings, scoring five goals among eight points. In what was his second full season in North America, he played only 46 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins but still managed to come away with the AHL goal-scoring title, with 34.
