It’s safe to say Lollapalooza didn’t have people like me in mind when choosing its headliners.

There is no hip-hop headliner like there was in 2008 (Kanye West) and 2011 (Eminem). Also, I’m too young to care that the three-day music festival will feature a reunited metal band (Black Sabbath) and I’m too old to care that this year’s Lollapalooza will feature two dance-music headliners for the first time (Avicii and Justice).

That leaves me with a band I haven’t cared about since college (The Red Hot Chili Peppers) and two acts I haven’t cared about since, well, ever (Jack White and The Black Keys).

Yes, I know it’s cool to like the Black Keys. But I just took a week off from work to travel to Miami for Wrestlemania. Do you think I care about what’s cool? And yes, I’m well aware that it’s residents like me who are ruining Wicker Park. The smokers in front of Easy Bar have already pointed this out to me.

On the bright side, I am looking forward to seeing Lolla acts Bloc Party, Childish Gambino, The Temper Trap, Metric, Empires and Passion Pit and one song from M83 and Calvin Harris. I’m sure I’ll also find a new band to like, which is what happened in 2007 (Kings of Leon) and 2010 (Metric). And besides, just because you really like a band doesn’t mean you’ll automatically like their show at Lollapalooza.

I’m looking at you Coldplay
